About Dr. David Looney…
He is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and currently lives in Jackson, Tennessee since
2016. He has been married to his wife Kay for over 40 years. They have two daughters, Hope
and Paige and her husband Cody. His oldest daughter Hope was diagnosed with autism at 2 years
of age.
He is a 1986 graduate of the Memphis School of Preaching and graduated from Freed –
Hardeman University in 2007 with a B.S. in Bible and in 2009 received a M.A. in Ministry. Dr.
Looney received his Doctor of Ministry in Family Therapy in 2018 from Amridge University.
Dr. Looney taught Advanced Clinical Psychology in the DBH Program at Freed-
Hardeman University for 4 years and taught Death and Dying for 6 years in the Department of
Sociology.
He has been a featured speaker at Polishing the Pulpit for a number of years and he, along
with his wife Kay, have provided counseling for those who have attended this conference. They
have been involved in counseling there for the past 13 years. He has also served the Bolivar,
Tennessee Fire Department as a Chaplain since 2009. He has also served as a minister for over 40 years
years for the churches of Christ in Tennessee and Mississippi.
Dr. Looney is uniquely qualified to conduct these seminars on autism and to counsel with
families who have a child on the autism spectrum. He is also available to conduct marriage and
the family, mental health, and grief seminars as well as Gospel Meetings.
The new phase of his career is for the purpose of helping churches and school systems to
meet the needs of families and children who are on the autism spectrum or dealing with other
issues under the umbrella of neurodiversity.
